Tech Support Scams

Today tech support scams are happening more and more. They are ever changing to attempt to fool people out of money, as well as gives the scammer access to your computer.

You may receive a phone call with an automated message saying you have an issue with your computer, and to press a number to connect to a support technician. A lot of these scammers are saying they are from Microsoft.

You could also be browsing the internet and get redirected to a website that gives you a warning (like the image below). The scammers brand these fake websites with Microsoft logos to attempt to fool people. The scammers makes it difficult to close the warning, and the page provides a number for you to call to get support. At this point, you can use the Task Manager to close the browser. If that fails, then restarting the computer will also do the trick.

If you end up talking to the scammers, they will get you to allow them remote access to your computer, and they will try to convince you there is an issue, even though there isn’t. Ultimately they will ask for a payment or gift cards to resolve your issue.
